What is diameter of temperature sensor please?

I have two, both from different sources, and they both measure 4mm.

I need the probe to run about 50ft. can I cut the probe off, add an extension and solder the ends of the wires together like a normal thermocouple?

In fact, the probe is a resistor. So, if you add cable, you add resistance. That will affect the reading.
