The Adafruit Ethernet FeatherWing provides wired internet connectivity for Feather boards, ideal for permanent installations where wireless isn't feasible. It uses the WIZ5500 chip, which communicates over SPI with a single chip select (CS) pin. The FeatherWing supports Ethernet client functionality (server not supported) and is compatible with the Arduino Ethernet2 library, offering automatic DHCP setup. The RJ-45 jack features link and activity LEDs for connection status. While it doesn’t support Power over Ethernet (PoE) natively, a PoE splitter can be added for power. The Adafruit Ethernet FeatherWing  is compact (59.2mm x 22.8mm) and lightweight (10g), and requires simple soldering of header pins

Features:

  1. Easy Wired Internet: Just plug in an Ethernet cable and use the Arduino Ethernet2 library for network connectivity.
  2. Compatible with All Feather Boards: Works as an Ethernet client (server support not available).
  3. Link and Activity Lights: Provides visual connection status via LEDs on the RJ-45 jack.
  4. No PoE Support: Can be paired with a PoE splitter to provide power via Ethernet.

Package Include:

1 x Adafruit Ethernet FeatherWing

Setup Guide

1
Identify the pins
Locate VCC (power), GND (ground), and data pins (SDA/SCL for I2C, MOSI/MISO for SPI, or TX/RX for UART). Refer to the pinout diagram on the product page.
2
Wire to your microcontroller
Connect VCC to 3.3V or 5V (check the module spec), GND to GND, and data pins to the appropriate GPIO pins on your Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
3
Install libraries
In Arduino IDE, go to Sketch → Include Library → Manage Libraries and search for the sensor library. Install the recommended version.
4
Upload example sketch
Open File → Examples → [library name] → Basic Example. Upload to your board and open Serial Monitor to view output.
5
Calibrate if needed
Some sensors (temperature, humidity, distance) may need a short warm-up period or calibration. Run the calibration sketch if provided.
