The Adafruit CAN Bus FeatherWing is the perfect solution for connecting your Feather board to a CAN Bus network. Originally designed for automotive and industrial applications, CAN Bus has now found its way into robotics and sensor networks where extended range and addressing capabilities are required. Unlike I2C, CAN Bus operates on a 2-wire differential interface, making it suitable for long-distance communication in noisy environments.

With a transmission rate of approximately 1Mbps, the bus frequency is set and synchronized among all connected devices. Each node on the network has a unique address, allowing it to selectively listen to messages intended for it. Adding new nodes to the network is simple, requiring only a connection to the shared data lines. Thanks to clever data encoding, message collisions are detected, and retransmissions occur to ensure reliable communication.

The Adafruit CAN Bus FeatherWing features the MCP2515 controller, a widely supported and popular chipset with Arduino and Circuit Python drivers. It only requires an SPI port and two pins for chip-select and IRQ. Setup Guide

Identify the pins
Locate VCC (power), GND (ground), and data pins (SDA/SCL for I2C, MOSI/MISO for SPI, or TX/RX for UART). Refer to the pinout diagram on the product page.
