The LoRaTM long-range modem in the RFM96 transceivers provides ultra-long range spread spectrum communication and high interference immunity while consuming minimal current. RFM96 can achieve a sensitivity of over -148dBm using HopeRF's patented LoRaTM modulation technique and a low-cost crystal and bill of materials.

The combination of high sensitivity and an integrated +20 dBm power amplifier results in an industry-leading link budget, making it ideal for any application requiring range or robustness. Over traditional modulation techniques, LoRaTM provides significant advantages in both blocking and selectivity, resolving the traditional design compromise between range and selectivity.

Applications:

  1. Automated Meter Reading.
  2.  Home and Building Automation.
  3.  Wireless Alarm and Security Systems.
  4.  Industrial Monitoring and Control
  5.  Long-range Irrigation Systems

 Features:

  1.  LoRaTM Modem.
  2.  168 dB maximum link budget.
  3.  +20 dBm – 100 mW constant RF output vs. V supply.
  4.  +14 dBm high-efficiency PA.
  5.  Programmable bit rate up to 300 kbps.
  6.  High sensitivity: down to -148 dBm.
  7.  Bullet-proof front end: IIP3 = -12.5 dBm.
  8.  Excellent blocking immunity.
  9.  Low RX current of 10.3 mA, 200 nA register retention.
  10.  Fully integrated synthesizer with a resolution of 61 Hz.
  11.  FSK, GFSK, MSK, GMSK, LoRaTM and OOK modulation.
  12.  Built-in bit synchronizer for clock recovery

Setup Guide

1
Identify the pins
Locate VCC (power), GND (ground), and data pins (SDA/SCL for I2C, MOSI/MISO for SPI, or TX/RX for UART). Refer to the pinout diagram on the product page.
2
Wire to your microcontroller
Connect VCC to 3.3V or 5V (check the module spec), GND to GND, and data pins to the appropriate GPIO pins on your Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
3
Install libraries
In Arduino IDE, go to Sketch → Include Library → Manage Libraries and search for the sensor library. Install the recommended version.
4
Upload example sketch
Open File → Examples → [library name] → Basic Example. Upload to your board and open Serial Monitor to view output.
5
Calibrate if needed
Some sensors (temperature, humidity, distance) may need a short warm-up period or calibration. Run the calibration sketch if provided.
