Want to communicate via infrared technology? We have Seeed Studio’s Grove – Infrared Emitter v1.2 especially for you. Infrared is a quick, cheap, and easy method to transmit data. An infrared LED is like any other LED, with its color centered around 940 nm. You can transmit infrared signals through an infrared LED, while there is an infrared receiver to get the signals on the other side.  We can not only use the emitter to transmit data or commands but also to emulate remotes to control your home appliance using an Arduino. With infrared emitter, you are able to transmit signals up to 10 meters. Beyond 10 meters, the receiver may not get the signals. We often use the two Groves, Grove - Infrared Emitter and Grove - Infrared Receiver to work together to establish communication between two ends.

This emitter is designed to work in tandem with the Grove Infrared Receiver so that you can quickly build your own infrared data system. Applications of this emitter include infrared remote control units with high power requirements, free air transmission systems, and as an infrared source for optical counters and card readers. The Grove - Infrared Emitter is a great tool to cheaply integrate remote control/communication to any of your projects.

For all Grove users (especially beginners), Seeed Studio provides guidance PDF documents. Please download and read through Preface - Getting Started and Introduction to Grove before using the product. It is a suitable product for not only Grove users but also all electronic enthusiasts. With the Grove - Infrared Emitter you can control legions of robotic minions - or just your TV. So, why wait? Buy now!

Setup Guide

1
Identify the pins
Locate VCC (power), GND (ground), and data pins (SDA/SCL for I2C, MOSI/MISO for SPI, or TX/RX for UART). Refer to the pinout diagram on the product page.
2
Wire to your microcontroller
Connect VCC to 3.3V or 5V (check the module spec), GND to GND, and data pins to the appropriate GPIO pins on your Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
3
Install libraries
In Arduino IDE, go to Sketch → Include Library → Manage Libraries and search for the sensor library. Install the recommended version.
4
Upload example sketch
Open File → Examples → [library name] → Basic Example. Upload to your board and open Serial Monitor to view output.
5
Calibrate if needed
Some sensors (temperature, humidity, distance) may need a short warm-up period or calibration. Run the calibration sketch if provided.
