The BWSENSING SEC385 is a compact, high-precision three-axis electronic compass designed for demanding environments. With a heading accuracy of 0.5° RMS, it features integrated hard-iron, soft-iron and tilt compensation that allows reliable heading data even when the sensor is tilted up to ±80°. Encased in a rugged form factor measuring just L60 × W59 × H29 mm and weighing about 180 g, it operates over a wide temperature range of –40 °C to +85 °C and accepts a DC supply from 9 to 36 V. Interfaces include RS232, RS485 and TTL output options, with baud rates from 2400 to 115200. Ideal for applications such as satellite tracking, marine survey, vehicle navigation and mechanical control, it brings high reliability and small-size deployment to orientation sensing.

Features:

  1. Ultra-high heading accuracy of 0.5° (RMS) under nominal conditions.
  2. Full three-axis tilt compensation (±80°) using built-in accelerometer + magnetic sensor.
  3. Hard-iron and soft-iron calibration support for uncompromised magnetic accuracy.
  4. Wide operating temperature range from –40 °C to +85 °C – ensures performance in harsh field
  5. Compact dimensions (L60 × W59 × H29 mm) and low weight (~180 g) for tight-space
  6. Multi-interface output: optional RS232, RS485 or TTL levels for flexible integration.
  7. Resolution of 0.1° (and internal resolution down to 0.01°) for fine heading changes.
  8. Rapid startup (<3 s) and robust anti-vibration rating up to 2000 g for demanding mobile.

Package Includes:

1 x BWSENSING SEC385 Inclination Compensation 3D Electronic Compass Sensor (RS485)

Setup Guide

1
Identify the pins
Locate VCC (power), GND (ground), and data pins (SDA/SCL for I2C, MOSI/MISO for SPI, or TX/RX for UART). Refer to the pinout diagram on the product page.
2
Wire to your microcontroller
Connect VCC to 3.3V or 5V (check the module spec), GND to GND, and data pins to the appropriate GPIO pins on your Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
3
Install libraries
In Arduino IDE, go to Sketch → Include Library → Manage Libraries and search for the sensor library. Install the recommended version.
4
Upload example sketch
Open File → Examples → [library name] → Basic Example. Upload to your board and open Serial Monitor to view output.
5
Calibrate if needed
Some sensors (temperature, humidity, distance) may need a short warm-up period or calibration. Run the calibration sketch if provided.
